Cooked Sauerkraut Lithuanian style

This is delicious sour side dish pairs with any kind of meat. It is very popular in Lithuania and many other Eastern European countries. Let me show you how it used to be made in our house since I remember. You can use fresh sauerkraut or good quality (without vinegar) German sauerkraut form jars. Sauerkraut has lots of acid so it takes a long time to cook (1 hour). Let me show you how I make it.

This pork butt\ham roast, actually it is a pork butt part, but for unknown reasons Americans call shoulder meat butt.. and this part becomes a picnic ham. Hm.. Maybe they can’t figure it out where the head is? Hahaha
Anyway, this is scrumptious delicacy is easy to make, but you know some steps and have to start in the late morning if you want it for dinner. I had 9.5 lbs ham and it took me over 5 hours to make it, plus it needs to rest at least 15-30 min.
