Who doesn’t like a good fried chicken?! Everyone does! I am not saying it’s some healthy everyday meal, but, when you are married to an American, even if they love all kind of food, you gotta feed them real American once in a while haha.

I was going to make some regular herby fried chicken and CHEEZE-IT was in my way. I was like.. hell yes, come on in in my breading LOL. And the outcome was outstanding! You can feel all the herbs and CHEEZE-IT pieces. Chicken was crunchy outside and juicy juicy inside. Perfect combination of all the flavors. Sprinkling some smoked salt right before serving, was like a cherry on the top. I used a whole chicken without the back part, but it would be awesome to use any of your favorite chicken parts, especially wings sounds really good to me!
Let me share with you how I made it.

Ingredients

  • For the chicken
  • 1 whole chicken, ~5 lbs., back removed, cut in portion sized pieces

  • 1 qt. of buttermilk

  • 2 tbsp. of sea salt

  • 5 cloves of garlic, pressed or finely grated

  • For the breading
  • 3 cups of all purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 cups of CHEEZE-IT, roughly crushed

  • 1 tbsp. of dried ginger

  • 2 tsp. of smoked paprika

  • 2 tbsp. of sweet basil

  • 1 tbsp. of thyme

  • 3 tsp. of oregano

  • 1 tsp. of cayenne pepper

  • 4 tbsp. of sweet paprika

  • 1 tbsp. of black pepper

  • 2 tbsp. of granulated garlic

  • 1 tbsp. of sea salt

  • For the serving
  • 1 tsp. of smoked sea salt

Let’s make it

  • Mix buttermilk with garlic and salt. Let the salt to dissolve, for 5 min or so. Then add the chicken, cover with the plastic wrap and leave it for at least 30 min or over night for the best results.
  • Mix all the breading ingredients together.
  • Coat evenly each piece of chicken in the breading mixture and fry in the preheated to 350 F oil on a medium high heat until it’s done. Don’t be alarmed with to dark color, it was dark to begin with, because of the spices and especially of the amount of paprika.
  • Sprinkle with generous amount of smoked sea salt and serve with your favorite side dishes and dipping sauce. This time I used home made blue cheese sauce (recipe is coming) and oven baked fries on the side.
  • Enjoy!
