Looking for a new salad sprinkles? Popped black wild rice

Recipe by Sweet ZivileDifficulty: Easy

I love salads and always look for new additions, new dressings and ingredients.
Did you know that wild rice can be popped like a popcorn?
You have never tried wild rice? What is wild rice? It’s actually not a real rice, it’s some type of grass seeds full of vitamins, fiber and it has 4 grams of protein per 100 grams of cooked wild rice. It has very nutty, earthy flavor.

Popped wild rice can be used as a garnish to salads, pasta dishes or roasted vegetables, wherever you would use nuts for crunchiness. It tastes similar to sunflower seeds to me.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of wild rice

  • 1-2 tbsp. of vegetable oil

Let’s make it

  • Same method as popping popcorn, add 1-2 tbsp. of vegetable oil to a heavy bottom pan. When it’s hot add rice, close the lid and shake it. Heat shaking often for 1 minute. Open the lid and stir slowly constantly until all the rice is popped and nicely roasted.
  • Sprinkle of your favorite dishes to add some nuttiness and enjoy!
